Battlefield Trail Multi-Phase Planning
Phase 1 for this project consists of an ADA compliant trail beginning at the east end of Orphan Brigade Road and traversing easterly into the City’s Battlefield crossing Griffin Creek with a 3-span bridge and terminating on the eastern side of the creek. Project challenges included designing an 8-foot wide trail on a steep hill side slope and crossing a creek with a wide flood plain and flood depth over 15-feet. This phase is complete and has been constructed. Phase 2 completed the 10-foot paved trail (8-foot in some locations) from the Chattahoochee Tech Spur of the Silver Comet Trail and connecting to the City’s existing Battlefield Trail (Phase 1) shared use path project.  The proposed trail then continues from the Phase I project on City owned property for approximately 1-mile and connects to Sara Babb Park in the City of Dallas.  The project has a total length of 3.06-miles. Both phases were federally funded and followed the full Plan Development Process (PDP) requirements set forth by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
