SR 211 Operational Improvements
The City of Winder received Operational Improvement Funds from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to improve traffic flow along SR 211 / Athens Street. SR 211 is a critical corridor which provides access to the City of Winder from the West. What was once a bottleneck, has now become a free flowing arterial. The improvements included two interconnected traffic signal upgrades, railroad signal interconnectivity, roadway widening (from 2 lanes to 3 lanes), curb & gutter, drainage upgrades, retaining walls, utility relocations, utility upgrades, traffic signal installations, and concrete sidewalk. With minimal right of way and extensive utility infrastructure, detailed coordination with property owners and utility providers proved to be a vital aspect to implementing a successful project.
