The project involved removing 25,000 cubic yards of fill dirt from the embankment between Metropolitan Parkway and campus buildings, relocating it to create a level central lawn for student use and outdoor events. Walkways were redesigned to meet ADA requirements, and a new concrete and paver plaza was built, along with improved lighting and landscaping. The primary campus roadway was widened and reconstructed, while a gravel parking area was transformed into a paved lot with 135 stalls.

Keck + Wood, Inc. collaborated with Winthrop University to design and construct a storm water management system in the central area of the campus, serving as both a recreational lawn and a storm water detention area. The design incorporates circular sidewalk patterns around depressions that hold storm water runoff during heavy rains, while providing gathering spaces for students when dry. This innovative approach integrates storm water management into a public space, enhancing the beauty and functionality of the campus environment.
