Fire Modeling + Hydrant Study

This project included the evaluation of the water distribution system to strengthen serious fire protection weaknesses for the Town of Kershaw. For the project, Keck + Wood covered field investigations, hydraulic model calibration, and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) preparation.

The modeling showed weaknesses from heavy internal buildup in old cast iron mains. This changed the solution from hydrant repairs to a full main replacement plan: more than 23,000 LF of new 6-inch and 8-inch PVC main, with an expected life of more than 50 years, along with added capacity for growth. The CIP was written for State Revolving Fund (SRF) and Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) funding limits.
